Wenjie is a Postdoc research associate at the Savanna Lab at New Mexico State University and the Jornada Basin Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) site. He grew up in China and went to graduate school in the U.S. in 2010. He received his PhD in Geography from SUNY Buffalo. His research mainly involves exploring the spatiotemporal dynamics of ecosystems and their link to ecosystem functions and services using earth observations.
Wenjie’s current research interest is to understand the ecological and biogeochemical dynamics of dryland ecosystems. More specifically, he is studying the interactions (e.g. competition) and demographics (i.e. establishment) of the shrubs in the drylands in Southwest U.S. He is also working on a meta-analysis on woody plant encroachment across global drylands.
Wenjie enjoys watching movies, reading books, travelling, LEGO, and playing with his cat Snowball II when he is not working.
